Description:

Infud 1% Cream, available under the brand name Lamisil, is used for the treatment of various fungal infections. It has shown effectiveness against conditions like athlete's foot, jock itch, pityriasis versicolor, and ringworm. It can be administered orally or applied topically as a cream or ointment.

Terbinafine primarily acts as an antifungal agent, and when used as a cream or ointment, it can also help alleviate symptoms such as itching, burning, cracking, and scaling associated with fungal infections. When applying the cream or ointment, it should be used on clean, dry skin.

Avoid applying the cream or ointment to the eyes, nose, mouth, or intimate areas. It is typically used once daily, preferably at the same time each day. Do not use it on nails or the scalp unless directed by a doctor. Continue using the medication until symptoms have reduced and for a few additional days to prevent the infection from returning.

This medication is generally well-tolerated and rarely causes serious side effects. Allergic reactions are infrequent.

During treatment with the cream, avoid contact with the eyes, nose, or mouth. Nursing mothers should refrain from using it on breast tissue. Inform your physician if your eyes or skin turn yellow or if you experience irritation, itching, or burning.

Avoid using occlusive dressings at the same time as this therapy. Achieving the full clinical effect may take several months because it requires time for a new nail to grow.

Patients should not be considered treatment failures until they have been symptom-free for 2-4 weeks after completing the course of treatment. Gastrointestinal side effects typically improve with continued use.

How does Infud 1% Cream work?

Terbicip 1 % Spray works by stopping the production of a chemical known as ergosterol, which is responsible for forming the fungal cell membrane (the protective covering of the fungi). Thus, it kills the fungi and stops the spread of infections.

Side Effects of Infud 1% Cream

Common side effects of Infud 1% Cream may include skin peeling and skin itching. Uncommon side effects can involve skin lesions, scabs, skin color changes, skin redness, and application site reactions like pain, irritation, or a burning sensation. Rare side effects might encompass eye irritation, skin dryness, and skin inflammation.

If you experience any of the following severe side effects, stop using Infud 1% Creamand promptly contact your doctor:

  1. A severe skin rash with raised lumps, hives, and blistering.
  2. Signs of an allergic reaction, such as skin rash, itching, and swelling of the face, mouth, tongue, and throat, leading to difficulty in breathing.
Quick Suggestions:
  • Terbinafine helps treat fungal infections of the skin and nails.
  • Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.
  • Treatment may be needed for 2 to 6 weeks for skin infections and 6 weeks to 6 months for nail infections.
  • It can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Use broad-spectrum sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors.
  • Your doctor may monitor your liver function regularly during treatment. Inform your doctor if you notice yellowing of eyes or skin, dark urine, or stomach pain.
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding.
Indications:

Fungal nail infections, also known as onychomycosis, are frequently occurring infections that affect toenails and fingernails. These infections are caused by various types of fungi found in the environment. These fungal invaders gain access to the nails through small cracks in the nail or the surrounding skin, leading to infection. Symptoms of fungal nail infections include thickened or discolored (brown, yellow, or white) nails that are more susceptible to breakage. Typically, these infections are not painful unless they become severe. It's worth noting that fungal infections are more commonly found in toenails than in fingernails.

Tinea capitis, commonly referred to as scalp ringworm, is a fungal infection that affects the scalp, involving both the hair and the skin. This condition is contagious, and its symptoms include dry, itchy, and scaly patches on the scalp, along with hair loss and redness. The name "ringworm" arises from the circular or ring-shaped appearance of the affected areas. Tinea capitis primarily affects children between the ages of 3 and 7 years.

Pharmacology

Terbinafine is an antifungal Allylamine that works by inhibiting the formation of Ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes. This inhibition occurs by blocking the Squalene Epoxidase enzyme. This process results in an accumulation of high amounts of Squalene, which, rather than Ergosterol deficiency, enhances membrane permeability, ultimately causing fungal cell death. Depending on the medication concentration and the fungal species, Terbinafine hydrochloride can be fungicidal, although the clinical significance of in vitro data remains unclear. In both in vitro and clinical infections, Terbinafine has demonstrated effectiveness against most strains of Trichophyton Mentagrophyte and Trichophyton rubrum.

Dosage & Administration of Infud 1% Cream
  • Terbinafine cream is typically applied once or twice daily. The affected areas should be cleaned and dried before applying the cream. A thin layer of the cream is applied to the affected skin and the surrounding area and gently massaged in. For intertriginous infections (submammary, interdigital, intergluteal, inguinal), the application may be covered with a gauze strip at night. The expected treatment durations are as follows:
    • 1 to 2 weeks for tinea corporis and cruris
    • 1 week for Tinea Pedis
    • 2 weeks for cutaneous candidiasis
    • 2 weeks for Pityriasis versicolor Clinical symptoms typically improve within a few days, but discontinuing treatment prematurely or not adhering to a consistent treatment regimen may increase the risk of recurrence. If there is no improvement after two weeks, the diagnosis should be confirmed.
