Indications of Fungidal Cream

Miconazole Topical Cream is used to treat skin and nail diseases caused by dermatophytes, yeasts, and other fungi, including Tinea capitis, corporis, manuum, pedis, Barbie, cruris, unguium, or onychomycosis. It is also effective against Pityriasis versicolor, nail- and skin-candidiasis, angular stomatitis, and otitis externa. Additionally, it has an antibacterial effect on Gram-positive bacteria.

Pharmacology

Miconazole is an imidazole antifungal agent that inhibits the formation of ergosterol and alters the cell wall permeability of susceptible fungi. It is also active against some gram-positive bacteria, Cryptococcus neoformans, Pseudalescheria boydii, and other microorganisms. Hydrocortisone, a synthetic glucocorticoid, has anti-inflammatory, vasoconstrictive, antimycotic, and antipruritic effects, which help to reduce skin irritation.

How to use Fungidal 2% Cream

This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the cream. Wash your hands after applying, unless your hands are the affected area.

An antifungal drug is Fungidal 2% Cream. It eradicates fungi and stops their growth. This lessens the infection-related symptoms. Athlete's foot, Dhobie, and other infections may be treated with it. Dosage & Administration of Fungidal Cream

Adult Dose:

Topical/Cutaneous Adult: 

Tinea cruris, corporis & cutaneous candidiasis:

• Apply to affected area BID for 2 weeks 

Tinea versicolor: 

• Apply once daily to the affected area for 2 weeks 

Tinea pedis: 

• Apply BID to the affected area for 4 weeks

Child Dose:

• Tinea <2 years: Safety and efficacy not established 
• >2 years: Apply BID for up to 1 month

Apply a sufficient amount of Miconazole Topical Cream to the affected area twice daily for skin infections. 

• Rub it well until it is fully absorbed. Treatment should continue for 2-5 weeks, and an additional 10 days to prevent relapse. 
• For nail infections, apply once daily to the infected nail after clipping it as short as possible, and cover it with a non-perforated occlusive plastic bandage. 
• Continue treatment until a new nail has grown, usually after seven months or more.

Interaction

Concurrent therapy with Terfenadine, Astemizole, and Cisapride should be avoided since Miconazole may impede their metabolism, causing these products to precipitate, according to in vitro investigations.

Miconazole may cause a delay in the metabolism of phenytoin and cyclosporine, which might lead to phenytoin and cyclosporine toxicity, respectively.

Contraindications

Miconazole Topical Cream is contraindicated in individuals who are hypersensitive to any of its components. It should not be used in pregnant or lactating women without a doctor's advice.

Pregnancy & Lactation

The use of topical steroids, including hydrocortisone, during pregnancy and lactation, should be limited to a doctor's prescription.
