Pharmacology of Doxiva 200mg:

Doxophylline is a novel bronchodilator. It structurally differs from Theophylline due to the presence of a dioxolane group in position 7. Doxophylline selectively inhibits phosphodiesterase 4 thereby relaxing bronchial smooth muscle. However, differently from Theophylline, Doxophylline appears to have decreased affinities toward adenosine A1 and A2 receptors, which may account for the better safety profile of the drug. Doxophylline is reported to inhibit platelet-activating factor (PAF) and the generation of leukotriene production.

Dosage & Administration of Doxiva 200mg:

Elderly: 200 mg tablet two or three times daily.

Adults: 400 mg tablet two or three times daily or as prescribed by the physician.

Children:

• >12 years of age: two or three 200 mg tablets or 10 ml syrup doses per day.
• 6–12 years old: 6–9 mg/kg body weight twice daily, or 3 ml (60 mg) twice daily if the child weighs 10 kg, or as directed by a doctor.
• Doxophylline SR tablet is to be taken once daily or as directed by the physician if a daily dose of 400 mg is required.

Interaction of Doxiva 200mg:

Other xanthine derivatives should not be administered with Doxiva 200. For xanthines, toxic synergism with ephedrine has been established. Concomitant therapy with troleandomycin, lincomycin, clindamycin, allopurinol, cimetidine, ranitidine, propranolol, and the influenza vaccine may reduce the hepatic clearance of xanthines, increasing blood levels. This is similar to other xanthines. Doxophylline serum concentrations and toxic events have not been linked in any way that has been documented.
