Cefim-3 200mg Capsule is an antibiotic. It kills the bacteria by preventing them from forming the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is needed for them to survive.

Indication of Cefim-3 200mg Capsule

Cefixime is indicated in the treatment of the following infections when caused by the susceptible strains of the designated microorganisms: 

• Uncomplicated urinary tract infections caused by Escherichia coli and Proteus mirabilis.
• Otitis Media caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis and Streptococcus pyogenes.
• Pharyngitis and tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes.
• Acute bronchitis and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae.
• Uncomplicated gonorrhea (cervical/urethral) caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

Pharmacology

Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that is orally administered and semi-synthetic. It can kill a wide variety of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis when it is present at readily obtainable plasma concentrations. It is very stable in the presence of the beta-lactamase enzyme. Consequently, Cefixime is capable of killing bacteria that are resistant to penicillins and certain cephalosporins due to the presence of beta-lactamases. Whether it is given with or without food, it is absorbed roughly 40% to 50% of the time.

Dosage and Administration of Cefim-3 200mg Capsule

• The typical duration of Cefixime treatment is 7 days, but this may be extended up to 14 days depending on the severity of the infection.
• Adults and children over 12 years of age are usually prescribed a daily dose of 200-400 mg, taken once or twice a day.
• For uncomplicated cervical/urethral gonococcal infections, a single oral dose of 400 mg is recommended.
• For children aged 6 months or older, the usual dose is 8 mg/kg/day, taken once or twice a day, with specific dosages depending on age.
• The dosage for typhoid fever is 10 mg/kg/day for 14 days.
• Cefixime is not recommended for children under 6 months of age, as its safety and efficacy have not been established in this age group.
• Take Cefim-3 200mg Capsule in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Cefim-3 200mg Capsule may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Interaction

When taken together, carbamazepine and this drug can increase the levels of carbamazepine in the body. Additionally, using warfarin or other anticoagulants at the same time as this drug can increase prothrombin time.

Contraindications

It's not recommended if you're allergic to Cefixime or other cephalosporins.

Pregnancy & Lactation

However, no suitable and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have been conducted. Because animal reproduction studies do not always predict human response, this medication should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary. Cefixime is not known to be excreted in human milk. When Cefixime is given to a breastfeeding mother, caution should be observed.

• Pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing mothers should not use Cefim-3 200mg Capsule without first consulting their doctor.
• Cefim-3 200mg Capsule may cause dizziness, so only drive when you are alert. Cefim-3 200mg Capsule may interfere with certain tests, such as urine glucose (sugar) tests, and produce unusual results.
