How Bukof Syrup works?

Benadryl DR Syrup is an antitussive (cough suppressant). It suppresses cough by reducing the activity of the cough center in the brain.

• You have been prescribed Bukof Syrup for the symptomatic relief of dry cough.
• It is usually taken for a short time, until the symptoms clear up.
• Allow the lozenge or disintegrating strip to dissolve in your mouth. Do not chew or swallow.
• Measure the syrup with a special dose-measuring spoon or cup, not a regular table spoon.
• Do not smoke, as it might worsen your symptoms.
• Gargle with salt water for relief from sore throat.
• Avoid alcohol consumption as it may cause tiredness, drowsiness, or lack of concentration.
• Drink extra fluids to help loosen the congestion and lubricate your throat while you are taking this medication.
• It should not be administered to patients with a chronic cough or where the cough is accompanied by excessive secretions.

Indication of Bukof Syrup

Bukof Syrup is used for the symptomatic relief of cough or dry cough caused by the common cold, inhaled allergic irritants, and other conditions. It is not used to relieve cough caused by smoking and asthma.

Pharmacology

By directly influencing the cough center in the brain, butamirate citrate reduces coughing. Butamirate Citrate is a non-sedating, non-toxic substance that is neither chemically nor pharmacologically related to opium alkaloids. Butamirate citrate is quickly and completely absorbed after oral administration. In nine hours, the sustained-release tablet reaches its peak concentration. This organism is very tightly bound to proteins.

Dosage & Administration of Bukof Syrup

• Children ages 3 to 6 should take 5 mL of syrup three times per day.
• 6 to 12 years: 3 times a day, 10 mL of syrup.
• Teenagers over 12 years old: 15 mL of syrup three times per day.
• 15 mL of syrup for adults four times per day

Shake the bottle well before use. Take the prescribed dose by mouth using the measuring cup/dosing syringe/dropper provided by the pack.

Interaction

The QTc interval lengthens and ebastine's plasma level rises when combined with erythromycin or ketoconazole. Ebastine has no effect on the pharmacokinetics of theophylline, warfarin, cimetidine, diazepam, or alcohol. Alcohol and diazepam may have more sedative effects than either drug alone.

Contraindications

Intolerance to the active ingredient.

Pregnancy & Lactation

During the first trimester of pregnancy, butamirate citrate should be avoided. It can be used if a doctor recommends it for the rest of the pregnancy, but only with caution. In the absence of data on the active substance's elimination in breast milk, the benefits of Butamirate Citrate administration during breastfeeding should be carefully weighed against the risks of breastfeeding.

Precautions & Warnings

• It is important not to use Bukof Syrup if you have an allergy to any of the ingredients.
• If you are pregnant or nursing, you should let your doctor know before using this medication.
• If you have a persistent cough along with symptoms such as fever or rash, you should seek medical attention immediately, as this could indicate a serious condition.
• It is essential to wait at least 15 days after the last dose of antidepressants, especially monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO), before using Bukof Syrup, as combining the two can be fatal.
